From Timber to Heirloom

The craftsmanship itself is the selling point — here is exactly what happens between a log of wood and a piece that becomes part of your home.

Selecting Wood

Every piece begins in the timber yard, not the workshop. Our craftsmen hand-select each log for grain, density, and age — rejecting far more than they accept. Only wood that will carve cleanly and age gracefully makes it to the next stage.

Hand Carving

This is where SOM is made. Master carvers, many trained over decades, shape every curve, motif, and column entirely by hand. No two pieces carved by the same artisan are ever quite identical — that variation is the signature of real craft, not a flaw to correct.

Assembly

Joinery is built for permanence — mortise-and-tenon and traditional joining techniques designed to outlast hardware, glue, and generations of use. A SOM piece is assembled to be inherited, not replaced.

Polishing

Finishing is done in patient, hand-rubbed layers rather than a single spray coat. Each layer is left to cure before the next, building the deep, lustrous polish that becomes richer with age instead of dull.

Quality Inspection

Before a piece is approved, it is inspected joint by joint, carve by carve, against a standard set by decades of the same craft. Anything that falls short does not leave the workshop.

Packing

Every piece is cradled in protective packing built around its exact shape — carved columns, delicate crests, and gilded detailing are padded individually before crating, so the piece that left our workshop is the piece that arrives.

Delivery

From Tamluk to homes across India and abroad, each piece is delivered and, where needed, assembled on-site — ready to take its place as the centrepiece of a room, and eventually, a family's history.
